For Fear of Being a Hypocrite

In Poetry on April 1, 2012 at 3:22 pm

For fear of being a hypocrite
I stuck to the same old line
My line
The line chose
-Or what was my chosen line
Before it got old,
As old as stale toast,
Before singing its tune
Didn’t feel quite so dry
As whistling
With a mouth
Full of crackers.
But
I stuck to that same old line,
For fear of being a hypocrite
I stuck to it…
And
For fear of being a hypocrite
I became one.
